It Is Now & sons
RS said post match that Inniss has a late international call up for T&T (his fathers home country)

He would miss Tamworth & Gateshead. Tough call for Ryan as T&T still can qualify for World Cup

Another interesting trip to Aldershot. Opening game last season saw us 2 down and end 3-3

Always looked like there would be goals today and had McAllister’s shot not crashed off the crossbar we could and probably should have been 3 to the good at half time

Shots made 3 half time changes that we didn’t really respond to and when we broke to get that 3rd goal it was looking like a good (but not great) afternoons work.

Then our soft centre reappeared for their first and Buyabu’s lack of defending skills cost us a free kick that we didn’t deal with for a 2nd.

I reckon there’ll be the now familiar team changes for Tuesday night. I’m very interested to see what we do up front and also whether Haughton will get any minutes.

6 goals on my visit last year and thankfully in the end just the 5 today ….. !!!

now to wait the rest of results! if only Brackley would win against Boreham with a difference of 2 goals, Rochdale would lose against Boston and Yeovil wouldn't lose against Scunthorpe (too much to ask, all three favorable results?), this would be the perfect day for FGR...
Hmmm… no chance. It’s going to be tough for us to keep up with the big boys and Boreham Wood.

Dausch was ok but Robbie has to change his mind about Doidge or get him fit or both or we are going to gradually drift away from the top before Mitchell returns.

I think he has to play proper full backs at full back too. Knowles did well I thought but Buyabu can’t defend and is better up the field threatening opponents’ defences all game.

I presume McAllister was MotM but Clarke, Whitwell and Bunker all played well and Inniss was good all game and will be missed over the next two games. Hopefully JMT is fit to play both.

RS talks to Billy about Doidge not being in the squad in this video. He also mentions that all players not making the matchday squad will likely get offers to leave on loan or permanently. So, I can predict right now what will happen. Doidge will get an offer, be on his way, and wherever he goes, he'll start scoring for fun. How many times have we seen this happen at FGR???

I'm sorry, but for Doidge not to be in the squad and Haughton not to get on the pitch just doesn't make sense, especially when we nearly blew a 3-0 lead. I don't like calling out players who don't play well, but there are players in the team/squad who are ahead of Doidge and Haughton who really shouldn't be, in my opinion.

To be honest, I think RS is rather fortunate Aldershot didn't get an equaliser, as there would have been some major disquiet on here today.

On the plus side, we did win and we got 3 points, so happy days!

Really looking forward to Tuesday night under the lights.

Something else I'd like to add. Unless he's injured, having a very high quality centre back like JMT on the bench is madness at this level.

I don't usualy complain about the players or the managers choice, but Babalola is terrible, what has he acheived since he's played for FGR, nothing at all and his control and skill is very poor. So unless Doidge is injured there is no reason for the Manager to leave him out and play such a terrible replacement in Babalola, it will make no difference to his team selection, but hope he reads some postings on this forum.

Spot on. Doidgey and Nick Haughton are a wasted resource whilst RS picks his favoured youngsters. Then he complains about mistakes and missed chances. The solution  - JMT, Doidge, Haughton in the starting line-up. Then substitute them with youngsters when they tire.

you are right! none of the big boys nor Boreham Wood failed today...

as for the 18:30 game, did you notice that any result of Southend v Carlisle will suit FGR? i'm too much positive sometimes / almost always, i know, i can't help it.

(by the way, if Tuesday match is won, up to the third position FGR could go, maybe to the second, even the first. only if Rochdale would draw or lose against York and Carlisle would end drawing or losing against Southend today; of course, there is also the chance on Tuesday to go down to the 6th place, but this idea is for others to fear)

3-0 up and only one side in it.....bit of a mirror image of last week!

Then when The Shots scored one, then another the 'nightmare scenario' of a 4-3 home win began to threaten my afternoon.

But no, we managed the game well in the last 20 minutes, subs and change of tactics  steady the ship.

First half we were totally dominant, Aldershot shellshocked by our pace and quality.

Second half the home side were better organised and we seemed to take our foot off the juice. It didn't surprise me when The Shots scored and this gave them the kind of momentum we enjoyed against Luton towards the end. It was a little nerve racking, but we settled and looked more likely to score than them towards the end.

Whitwell and McAllister my MOTM

Ryan Inniss again very reliable at the back, we would definitely miss him if he flies out to join the T&T squad against Jamaica. I will respect his decision if he goes....but I'd love it if he's on our team sheet on Tuesday evening.

So 3 points to remain one of the top six who are forging ahead. All our close competitors won and I have no doubt Carlisle will beat Southend in the late kick off.

Rest well lads, 2 more wins this week and hopefully better our goal difference which is inferior to others at the top.

Well done to our travelling fans.

Next two home games are very important. Win those and we are in the mix. Lose and we are looking over our shoulder - though Wealdstone/Halifax/Hartlepool look fairly distant. My worry is that our young lads won’t last the pace of RS’s style of play into the muddier pitches of the New Year so we need some headroom before then.

I agree with Deenthorpe, we need to get more out of JMT, Doidge and Haughton on the pitch even if it’s only for 60 or 20 minutes. They are battle hardened and experienced and will help sustain our challenge I think.

Anyway, anyone watching the last few games will know that Doidge is much better than Babalola at the latter’s stage in his career.

Perhaps we have an inexperienced manager who finds it easier for him personally to manage younger players who are beholden to him, and is less comfortable dealing with seasoned experienced professionals. Hence JMT, Doidge, Haughton, Sercombe, Long, May, Cardwell all not encouraged and gradually sidelined. Just a theory.

Hmmm, interesting theory...a bit like Hockaday and Cooper?
