yes-seems at some stage a couple of defenders will be signed .
thats fine and needed -but will they be any good ?

it seems club can no longer afford the quality of player required to be top echelons of NL ,so yes-recruit by all means, but has anyone the confidence that they will be better (need to be a lot better ) than the existing recruits ?

i think last season-over all MB did a very good job recruiting .
maybe his hands are more tied, but by way of direct comparison, this summer to last summer is like chalk and cheese .

there again-apart from the 'macclesfield three package ',and Kanu on loan no proper defenders were signed anyway last summer.

to be fair-the january loans of ahmed and morrison -neither of who exactly ripped up trees and struggled for game time.
Kircough to be fair -prob better than Obi ,and may make it .
reminds me a bit of kitchen -and he went on to do alright !

overall -maybe signing quality defenders is not exactly MB's specialist subject

Was MB's recruitment good, or were the likes of Mendy, who RS knew, the better signings? Even then, we didn't do as well as the previous season under SC. The Savage bounce is over and now we will see what he is made of. Without J Mc, I am not overly confident. He seemed to be the brains there.

If there is a money issue then the club needs to be honest.

If money is the issue, why is RS saying that he aims for the team to do better than last season? If money is the issue, why are the club saying the academy teams and the women's team were closed to allow the resources to be spent on getting back into the EFL? I don't appreciate gaslighting, if indeed that is what it is.

Mark my words, if our central defenders aren't replaced by better candidates then it's going to be a very long season. As it stands, making the playoffs seems a long way off we the central defenders we have. I just don't understand how we are in this position. RS and MB seem to have a huge blind spot here.

A very disappointing backward step today. Robbie is missing McMahon and seems not to know his best team. We all (including Robbie) know we are short in defence. Why do we keep bringing in attacking midfielders when the problems lie elsewhere and why are Ewing and Berry so lethargic. Ewing runs around to no great purpose and Berry is an individual not a team player based on recent performances.

Campbell was the best of a bad lot in the first half for me but Robbie took him off and decided to play Macca back there; what a waste. And if Robbie is saying they looked tired after three games in 8 days, why play Macca for pretty much all of every game; he's our best player but he needs rest too. And are they really tired? These are professional footballers who, with the exception of Patrick and a couple of others, have had a full preseason. Will they be ready by October when we are in the lower half of the league and grunbling?

It is Now got it right I think. Obi and Kircough are both learning and a full of mistakes but until we get someone better, they need to start cos Ajayi and Obi seem not to have built any understanding and they sit too deep. We have to accept that we are going to concede a lot of goals.

Mellor is great in lots of ways but is not a natural goalscorer and Rees is a natural goalscorer who doesn't do much else. Will that be enough?

I'm still hoping that Clarke will get the nod along with Haughton (who has missed a lot of chances but who still looks class with the ball at his feet). But I fear Robbie is going to persist with Ewing and Berry ... and I agree with whoever it was who said that we shouldn't have let Bunker go since with Mendy gone, we are very reliant on Campbell now and he's another who's learning and has goal creating mistakes in him.

I sense in his interview that Robbie is feeling very exposed, very unsure of himself and fearful - as I am - that we are significantly weaker, especially in defence, than last season. Of course its hard to tell until the rubber hits the road and we play Halifax in a week's time.

I look at the game the following week, away to Worthing, and get the heebie-jeebies...they have kept most of their title winning squad from last season, added some quality and have a tactically astute manager in Hinshelwood...I think they could surprise a few people, hopefully not us in their first home game at this level.
