This is all very dispiriting. At the start of the season I thought that we might make the playoffs and I suppose that is still a possibility. But things need to change on (and probably off) the pitch pretty soon if we are still to get that extra game at the end of the normal season.

I was happy that Doidge and Rees started up front together and I though that, despite the shouted criticism from RS from the sidelines, Doidge put in a decent shift and might well have scored if not for the fine margins of football. Rees on the other hand, looked bereft of confidence like many of the team. Buyabu did ok early on but his full back opponent worked him out 20 minutes in and his crosses are always wayward anyway; second half, he was rather anonymous and looked disheartened.

McAllister and, when they came on Clarke, Knowles and Bunker, all provided energy and forward thinking and neither Nwoko or Campbell (apart from the third goal) were awful. But all over the pitch we were second best in tackles and seemed to have to work out our patterns from first principles each time we got the ball and then weren't accurate enough in execution. Mendy is not good enough to play and sulk. Kanu was Kanu and Ahmed looks good going forward but can't defend.

Where are Pemberton and Kengni? They are not wonderful but they need to learn so they can be part of the 'journey' next season and they are probably better than Ahmed and definitely better than Morrison. And why not try Babalola alongside Rees when Doidge tires?

I've not understood the apparent contradictions between having so many loanees and building for next season, or between having so many young players who RS says will make mistakes and then, in interviews, bemoaning the mistakes. And now we are losing game after game, we don't have enough experience or permanent players who really care to be able to shake off the loss in confidence.

As has been said, under the experience of SC we had a decent season and were close to Wembley. It was dull football by the end but he could argue that he was on 'a journey' too. I think he lost some of the dressing room (was it the McCann fall out?) and he was an abrasive character but 3rd in this league looks a long way off from here.

Now RS with all his gloss and excitement - which I have to say I have enjoyed overall - may have lost the dressing room too (was it the Inniss incident or just the refusal to let Mendy go and presumably add multiples to his salary). RS probably has as much to learn as most of our youngest players. Will he manage it or will he slack it off and return to the peace and quiet of his family?

Bang average and finished 3rd..... What would have happened this season with SC being able to attract better players now the club was stabilized and no longer a laughing stock.
He had no option last season but to pay over the odds just to get players like Long, Sercombe, Tozer, Cardwell and Quigley because who would have wanted to come to a club who had just had 2 relegations and making the headlines for the wrong reasons

We finished a distant third in a weaker league than this season and most of his signings were gaff. And he was backed financially.

The Gaff signings finished 3rd...... How could he sign top quality players after the 2 relegations and the Deeney circus. He signed the only ones he could find and only by paying over the odds or we would have struggled in the national league also.
The league is not much different this season. Rochdale and Boreham Wood have improved...York are about the same...Barnet were better last season.
The bottom 5 or 6 this season are much worse than last season.

We certainly seem to make a habit of deteriorating after Christmas - this year, last year, the EFL2 title winning season and that season when Pennock was sacked. The only exception that springs to mind was when Cooper was in charge in EFL2 and we signed Lee Collins around the turn of the year. Now there was a proper leader.

Agree, league is about the same. Carlisle, Boreham Wood, Scunthorpe have replaced Barnet, Oldham, Gateshead with Regan Booty etc. Halifax were better last season. Barnet were superior to any team in the league this season.

We finished 10 points ahead of Rochdale last season. Now trail them by 20 points. A 30 point swing and getting worse. We've paid up some of our best players to go and play in League Two.

His constant ranting on the touchline is an embarressment. No matter how thick skinned his players are, this must be completely deflating and/or enraging. Someone needs to have a word!

I wasnt one who was moaning about the boring football we were playing last season although openly acknowledged it was poor post New year. Don't forget SC had to deal with the additonal challenge of a pitch that wasnt ready, resulting in so many away games on the spin it was untrue. Yet dealt with that challenge and the team rolling..we still finished 3rd and were very close to a play off final.

What I see currently is chaos, early substitutions and public spats with players, aka Troy Deeney times. Common denominator here -ex premiership players with egos....mmm but anyway.

I dont know what people are expecting but we are in the national league so cant expect Brazil like football on a regular basis. Yes RS had us playing some good stuff pre new year but maybe the high press tactics have taken their toll.

I m not sure where the team goes from here. Definitely lacked an identity last night anyway. Sincerely hope they get 3 points now away to Gateshead but I m not confident.

I predicted RS might leave before the season is out...you couldn't rule that out despite his messages of commitment, journey etc.

I won't mention names, but when one of your new signings is publicly telling people they regret leaving their previous employer you have to wonder what is happening.

I really don't get where this whole 'the league is stronger' this year comes from. It's a pretty empty statement/excuse that people often make without any basis for it.

The standard this year from most teams is no better then last year, there are two outstanding teams (Rochdale/York - Barnet/York 24/25), one other who have just come down and are strong with a big budget (Carlisle - Us 24/25)  but not quite at that level, and the rest are pretty bang average. Two promoted teams are in the top 5. The bottom teams are probably worse then last year.

RS said it at the Fans Forum. I'm not sure he's qualified to say that as he was in step 3 at the time.

What I find alarming is that last night RS said the team against Gateshead will be the team that wants to play for the club. But last last night was the team that wanted to play v Boreham Wood. Going around in circles.

I think it's stronger at the top. Our.points per game over last season (1.8) would still have us 6th currently.

I've gone off RS in the last month or so and think he's a bit out of.his depth. But I also don't think we made a mistake with SC leaving. They're not mutually exclusive things.

The top teams having a higher ppg often suggests a weaker league overall, not a stronger one. The top 2 this season are on a similar level to last year, although Barnet to me looked better against us then any of the other top sides this or last season.

Unlike in 24/25 one of the clubs coming down from L2 (Morecambe) have been an utter basket case, whereas the likes of Scunthorpe and Boreham Wood who are in the top 5 having just come up aren't better teams then Rochdale or Oldham were last year. Southend are about the same.

SC did a very good job last season, it wasn't always pretty but given the job he had turning the club around we made a lot of progress. He left a very solid platform behind imo.
