On Saturday, 8th August, at 3pm, Forest Green Rovers' opening match of the 2026/27 National League season kicks off with Halifax Town the visitors to the New Lawn Stadium.

The Shaymen finished last season in 8th position in the league; 1 place, but 11 points, behind Forest Green. In the 2 matches between the 2 clubs, Rovers were victorious on both occasions by 2 goals to 1.

The close season has seen Halifax welcome 10 new players (to date), with 15 plus last season's loaners departing. Probably the pick of their signings is striker Amari Morgan-Smith who has a lot of experience and goals at National League level and above.

As well as sharing your thoughts on the upcoming match, this thread is also the place to post your predictions. For the Matchday Predictions competition, you need to tell us the score, name one FGR scorer, and as this is a home game, estimate the attendance.

For a full explanation on how this competition works, please refer to:

It is free to enter, points are awarded for correct predictions, and at the end of the season, prizes of £80, £30 and £20 will be awarded to the winners. These prizes have been kindly donated by the FGR Supporters Club and @Glas on behalf of Stop Gambling Harm. Here are links to their pages:

New for this season's Matchday Predictions competition is the "One Goal Off" feature where a point is awarded if your predicted score misses by 1 goal; perhaps a last minute goal line scramble that either went in or didn't?

Here are some stats to help you decide what's going to happen.
