So, if I am coming to my first ever FGR match, which home fan section should I pick? Since my wife would be coming, under a roof is a must, but other than that where is the best place for first timers to experience the game/atmosphere/vibe of the match? Looking for any insight into the feel of the different fan areas at the stadium. Thanks!

It depends exactly what you and your wife are looking for, as each stand has its own distinct character. (All three of the home stands are covered though, it's only the away fans who get rained upon while watching the game).

East stand: seated, overall has better sightlines, especially if you can get a seat higher up. (It's not terribly high, though). Has access to the gym bar and more catering facilities than anywhere else, and unlike in the other stands the queueing areas for these are under cover. A bit of singing and chanting, but not usually a great deal. Sitting near the centre will get you the best views of the game though. It's a decent place to be.

South stand: standing, and the epicentre of where the atmosphere is created by fans. Usually LOTS of  loud, enthusiastic chanting and singing (I advise you to learn the words to the song that begins "The club on top of the hill, the little village team" and to research the correct answer to the question "What do you think of Cheltenham?"). Usually one or two drummers, too.  Moderately crowded. Catering facilities merely adequate (and uncovered, and usually no alcohol is available there) - best bet is go in the Green Man before the game.  If we win the toss, FGR usually choose to attack this end in the second half, so the most vocal fans are right there when we score. Sightlines of the rest of the pitch are OK rather than excellent, I advise getting there early (say 40 or 50 minutes before kick off), so you can get to the highest level of the terrace. Standing to one side can be as good or better as being more central. Towards the west side you might encounter typically coarse but good-natured banter between home and visiting fans in the adjacent stand  It's all Immensely good fun, and pretty much an old school traditional English footballing experience, and a world away from the sanitised Premier League corporate experience. Personally, unless I really needed to sit down or was with someone who did, I'd not go anywhere else.

North stand: similar in structure to the south stand, but with a very different crowd. More families with children (although these are found in East and South too). Typically probably the quietest of the home stands. How crowded it is probably varies more widely than the other stands too (on "kids go free" days it will be close to full).  Catering arrangements similar, more or less, to those of the South Stand but more clearly within view of the pitch.

If you decide to sit in the Main Stand (East) don't buy a seat in row-J unless you are less than 5ft 6ins tall, there isn't much leg room.  Otherwise it is generally OK...although as I am over 6ft tall the person who sits in front of me occasionally gets a knee in the back of his head (he posts on here and knows who I am, I do apologise when I do it!).
Green is the way, the only way!
