Wouldn't be surprised if we offer Knowles and Isted new contracts. Definitely going to need to recruit some quality defenders!

Mendy leaves! Late in the pro game , short career , has to go grab the money if offered higher and wouldn’t blame him. Plus a fee!
Whilst I wouldn't wish the club to stand in the way (again) of letting Mendy leave for a bigger club or better things, for the reason you highlight that a football career is short. Is your comment about him leaving based on some greater knowledge of the situation or from speculation posted elsewhere?

Feeling optimistic for next season. Bearing in mind that we've had a complete rebuild, some of the players have turned out really well and others less so. With the addition of a couple of decent defenders and a dominant striker we will have a decent and exciting team.

Hopefully a fully fit Rees is that dominant striker.

alot ' resting ' on RR ,incl the managers view.
obviously not fit post injury but even bwfore then _ whilst he got a few goals ( fair enough thats his job and he was doing it) , i am not (yet ) convinced he is the holy grail of strikers at this level .
hopefully i will be convinced by end of august but got a few doubts .
my personal prefwrence would be d ' mani.

that given rs seems pretty set on two up front next season.
that seems a bit silly to me as 1 up front worked prwtty well this last season , so why change it / why sacrifice a midfield player and leave the team more open ?
just do 1 up front 10% better.

I'm inclined to agree. We have so many good midfielder/strikers who can operate behind a lone striker (Clarke, Haughton, McAllister, Knowles) that I can't see why we would want to change the fundamental approach that was successful for much of this season. But I think that its is hard to see Rees as a lone striker and so to accommodate him (as RS seems to think so highly of him) we may need to play two up.

I agree with an earlier poster too that we have a bigger squad than we need and think that many are never going to make the requisite level. Several will have to go out on loan to create space for the upgrade in overall quality that we need. The ex-youth guys including Marquez, Robson, Pagel (if Isted stays), Bamba and one of Babalola and Mitchell would be the favourites to go in my book plus Harries if we can find a couple of CB replacements.

Whether Rees is that guy or not (and it's way too early to tell) he'll clearly be given every opportunity.

I'd like to see him playing off Mellor. Agree he's more suited to a pair than as a lone striker.
