If we dont win the play offs i actually worry about next season. I dont think we would be a play off team next season. And if McAlister leaves (because he should be playing higher) and if Houghton leaves (because he has been wasted with us, he should be playing every week for someone) and if Mendy gets another chance to move higher then we will struggle.
I agree. Robbie says he is building for next season but I fear that we will have quite a few gaps to fill and the best of our current no-loanee lot will have left. I just don't understand why we have gone through 40-50 games and Robbie doesn't know his best team. The loanees have, with the exception of Whitwell, been inconsistent or poor. Take them out and the likelihood of Mendy, Innis, Haughton and maybe McAllister leaving and what is left?
Today we were so exposed down our right flank - Etulaku and Ahmed have never played together and that is exactly how it looked. Ahmed has - as Lady M pointed out - not had a good game with us (he has only been marginally better than Morrison). On the other side, while I though Mingi was ok, he was played way out of his natural position had no relationship with Buyabu who only has a left foot and has been worked out by the opposition as the season has gone on.
Further forward Haughton had a quiet game and the two up top experiment didn't work (as Michael predicted). Clarke looked bored when he came on though he did create some momentum late on. Rees missed a couple of half chances and looks scratchy.
For me, JMT (hobbling though for the last 20 minutes), Mendy and Mellor looked the only ones who played well - I'd have given Mellor MotM again. But we are dodgy in defence without Campbell, Bunker and Inniss and toothless up front.
Having said all that, if Rees had taken his chance early on and the JMT headed goal had stood, then we'd have coasted home. Anything can happen in the playoffs but I think we know what will happen to us,
